The current political discussion within our nation, or should I say shrill partisan argument, suggests that our nation is standing on the edge of an abyss, that if we fall into, we will never be able to return to the light. It grieves me that this current climate within our nation is being fueled by the "Religious Far Right." This is the results of mixing politics and religion together to foster a certain political agenda that supposedly been "anointed by God".
These people continue to prostitute the Christian message for personal gain. It is not about "saving our country" or "country first" or "taking back our country"; it is about and always has been about the majority class' inability to share the wealth so that all races and classes of people in this great nation of ours can have an adequate share of the American dream.
I predicted in 2000 that one outcome of the 2000 election would be a movement to destroy the "Middle Class". Under President Bush, many within the "Middle Class" lost their jobs, their life savings, and their homes as a result of the Bush Economic policies. My predictions became a reality during President Bush's presidency.
Today the "Middle Class" is still under siege because Republicans in Congress are holding hostage the "Tax Cuts for the Middle Class" while they are lobbying to retain the most generous tax cuts for their wealthy friends, the top two percent.
I find it intriguing that Republicans set this very scenario into motion ten years ago when they voted for the Bush Tax Cuts. (Evidently, the Democrats did not foresee the trap Republicans was setting for them in case they gained control of Congress.) The law would not allow the Republicans to make these tax cuts permanent, the then Republican controlled Congress voted to have them expire at the end of 2010 so that they could use the argument that letting them expire is tantamount to raising taxes in an election year.
Today they accuse President Obama of threatening to raise taxes, if he does not agree to extend all of the Bush tax cuts. This is a ludicrous argument! The Republicans set this hoax in motion; they are responsible for the outcome of expiring tax cuts.
The White House and especially the Democrats in Congress should not be intimidated by these callous lies. They should counter the lies with the facts and relentlessly tell the American people the Bush economic policies, which were responsible for almost driving the American economy off the cliff continues to perilously place our nation's economy in jeopardy.
Why does this matter to me? It matters because I believe the unrepentant godless actions of the Religious Far Right are seriously damaging the message of Christ. Jesus did not advocate a spirit of intolerance; on the contrary, He advocated love of neighbor and even of enemy. He advocated that the church should live in peaceful co-existent within the world. This vicious lying spirit of the "Tea Party" candidates (Republicans in another disguise) scares me. They use the words of the Christian religion to advance their nefarious causes. And they act like they have the monopoly on the Christian message. All who disagree with them they label as liberals, communists, or "un American."
It is difficult as it is to spread the message of Christ in a world that loves to live in darkness. But now that the Religious Far Right has married the message of Christ with their sinister view of politics, it is becoming increasing more difficult to separate the two and present a pristine message of Christ.
It is my prayer that well meaning, serious thinking Christians can see through the lies and recognize the hypocrisy of those who would demagogue the Faith for their own personal gains.
I did not intend this blog to be so political! But the most prominent issue facing our nation, especially since we are going to polls in November, is who will control the future direction of our country? Well thinking people need to stand up and refuse to be bullied by the Religious Far Right and not allow them to hijack the vision that is America's. Our Constitutional form of government is endangered by the malicious movement which wants to take over the powers of government.
Have we not learned anything from the rise and fall of major civilizations before us?
My purpose as a Christian is to share the good news of the Gospel to the world for Christ. I will not allow the world to acculturate me. I am a pilgrim here--I am only passing through this world, not setting up camp. I will not forget this!
In writing this blog I simply want to light the torch of truth and allow its flames to purge us of the hypocrisy sweeping our nation. I encourage all who follow the Biblical Christ to be true to the message of Christ; love your brothers and sisters and especially love your enemies. God will handle the rest.
I will not diminish the Gospel message for my personal gain. Therefore, I will not embrace a political philosophy which tear people down. I understand the message of the Gospel to be a transforming Word of God. The Gospel is powerful enough to change the hearts of people. Let us proclaim it and allow the Spirit of Christ to empower people in loving and Christian ways to affect significant and positive changes within our society.
